Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Partisan politics plays a crucial role in shaping the development agenda in many countries, including Nigeria. Political parties often use community development projects as a tool to gain political leverage and fulfill their promises to voters. In Jos North LGA, Plateau State, the influence of partisan politics on community development is evident, with development projects sometimes being used as a means to gain political favor or support. These projects, which are meant to address local needs, can be heavily influenced by party politics, with some communities receiving benefits while others are neglected based on political affiliation.
This study seeks to evaluate the effect of partisan politics on community development projects in Jos North LGA, exploring how political competition, party loyalty, and electoral strategies affect the distribution of development resources. Limitations include challenges in obtaining data on the political decision-making processes behind development projects, as these may not always be transparent or accessible.
